Nine months of Growing

It's hard to believe that it's been a little over nine months since I took this photo. A photo that truly describes this family. All it takes is an "I love you" and you know just how much this mom and dad love their little man.

Over the last twelve months I have followed this family through photos as they have grown from a newly wed couple to a brand new mom and dad with one of the happiest kids I've ever met. Nine months ago this little man entered this world and he has been a joy to photograph. There were those photo shoots I would say it was me, or that he just didn't want his photo taken. Then, all of a sudden on one shoot it happened! He smiled when I walked in the door and we have been best buddies ever since. I truly believe that knowing when I child is ready to have his or her photo taken, and when he or she is not, makes all the difference in the quality of the photo that you are able to capture.

I wanted to take the time to show what "Nine months of growing" looks like. It's so amazing to me that we grow from smaller than a grain of rice to a six pound bundle of joy in nine months. Then from a wiggly squirmy six pound baby to a babbling, smiling laughing bouncing baby boy! Just a few more months and you'll get to dive into a BIRTHDAY CAKE!

This was the photo I was waiting for... my sister and my dad as he was going to walk her down the isle when she was about to say "I do". There is eight years difference between my sister and I and when her husband proposed and we started discussing her wedding, it was an instant answer between us both, she wanted me to be the photographer. The planning continued for what seemed like ages, the small details, the flowers, the thank you gifts and invitations that we all helped with were finally finished just days before the big event in November of 2011. I wanted to make sure that I gave my sister what she wanted, but also was able to enjoy the day myself. She is my only sister, and after discussion with several other photographers I enlisted the help of my husband, (who is my right hand at all of my wedding shoots) and two photographers who we attend church with, Nate and Penny. I had given clear instructions of the things that I wanted: The location they were to be, the angle I wanted shots, the moments that couldn't be recreated. Nate and Penny were a wonderful help and relieved a lot of pressure from me when I just wanted to be in the moment where I was Lauren's sister.

When I got the images from Nate and Penny I was very thankful for the shots of me. It's VERY rare that I am in an image. There is a reason that I am on the other end of the camera, that's where I find comfort and allow myself to live through the images that I am capturing.

Yet, there I was, on the other side of the camera. Ironically, if I had to appear in an image, this is how I would want to appear, as natural as possible. And for me, being in a photo where I am taking one of the most important photos I've ever taken, meant the world to me. The first image of Scott and myself with Lauren and my dad behind the closed doors of the church sanctuary was a culmination of months of planning and preparation. This was her moment. The moment when she would wait for Scott and my Aunt Karen to open those doors and she would walk down the isle to marry the man of her dreams.

I had asked for moments from Penny and Nate where only they would be shooting, so that I, in my "sisterly" moments could participate in the ceremony. That would be the second image of me. This is me being Lauren's sister. Had I not been capturing the moments that defined her wedding day, I would have been in a pew with one single perspective. In this image I was holding back tears because I knew I was saying goodbye to the little girl who had filled my life with love, tears, cookies, and lots of hamburger helper dinners, and saying hello to my sister as she grows into a wife, and a woman that I had just realized she was. I'll post another blog of my sister's photos but this is just to say Thank You to Scott, Nate and Penny for your help and support on Lauren's Wedding Day!

Today I am starting a new chapter in my photography career. I am going to have 365 days of photos. This, sure to be the first of many blogs, is the candy that I got for valentine's day. The photo was actually taken on a blue background. I am in the process of learning more about Photoshop in an effort to make my photos all that they can be. The chocolates were purchased from Peche here in Raleigh NC. All of them dark... my favorite!

7-13-09 5th Space Shuttle Launch Attempt

As the clouds began to circle we were pretty sure that the Shuttle was not going to go. Lightning was heard several times right before the nine minute mark, at which point NASA called the "No Go" for the Day. We were not able to make it back for the 6th try and lift off of the shuttle because our vacation had us moving further down the coast. Please feel free to view my other photos/leave comments. Freedom Ride, Washington DC May 24, 2009

On our way off the Metro we saw this bike. It was too perfect not to take a photo of

Like I said, the ride lasted for 3.5 hours. It was such a neat experience to be there
while the ride went on. My family and I walked around, in and out of the buildings, my
kids would ask "Mom what's that sound?" I'd reply, "It's still the ride."

This biker pulled right up in front of me and punched fists with both of my children.
I was a little confused as to what he was doing, but after the first one, I understood.

This was about 4 minutes into the ride. I was so proud to be able to see all of the
Gold Star Mom's riding, All that they have given up it was the least some of these
bikers could do, at least that's what they told me.

This was my favorite shot. This lady was so proud to be in the ride,
you can tell she doesn't ride often, she's wearing sandals, but she still
gave her time to show how proud she was of her son.

Most of these phtos speak for themselves, they need no comment.
This is one of those.

I love how the fish in the bottom left corner looks so mean
and the large fish looks so perky! Maybe he's just a little upset that
someone has stolen his thunder :)

I came up the back stairs and this is what I saw. Yet again, another unposed moment that made a beautiful photo.

I love this photo. Even in all the rush, this couple was able to find a few minutes alone by a beautiful fountain.

When we came out of the ape house the boys started looking in the window...

And to their surprise... this is what was there. He put his hand right up to the window where Robert was, it was so neat.
